Letter from the PTA President:

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Westside Chinese School.  The CLSSC PTA exists to enrich and enhance your children’s experience here. We know how hard it is to get your kids to school every Saturday so the PTA plans fun, culturally relevant activities to entice them to participate.  I know it’s worked on my kids, Hans 11 and Mei Mei 8.

This year, I’d like to recognize everyone, who works so hard carrying out our events including:  

Snack every Saturday: the school highlight for most of our children. You can all thank Richard Davis and Fred Yong for running these programs.

Every week, you’ll also see Fong Ling Liau lugging bags of yummy drinks and cold snacks which she has purchased to the storeroom.  Tina Huang then delivers bottled water to every teacher.

Lunch tickets and 99 Ranch Scrips: available for sale every Saturday in the entrance of the school. This year, Jennie Lo and Pei Chih-Hsing keep track of the tickets and the accounting. Parents please note: the school makes $300 for every $5000 in 99 Ranch scrips sold so if you shop at 99 Ranch please purchase our scrips.

School roster: This year, a new parent Peggy Hung, collected all the information, organized it, sold the advertising and collected the money so every family receives a free roster.

Field trips: such as our field trip and hike with the Tree People on Coldwater Canyon. This year’s program and much more is organized by our able PTA Vice President: Joey Handley

Chinese New Year Party: We’ll need everyone’s help to run this, but the LYNCHPIN’s are our wonderful individual Class Coordinators. You know who you are and by now, every parent knows who their class coordinator is too. If not,  please check the school website at www.clssc.com

Chinese School association track and field competition: Victor Yan runs this exhilarating event.  You can’t believe how thrilling it is to run at a university track against every other SoCal Chinese school. Even the adults get to participate-- Last year, CLSSC women’s 35+ track team took the silver medal.

School Camping Trip: this year’s will be at San Clemente State Beach. Thank you Eric Graves for landing this coveted location over Memorial Day Weekend

End of Year Carnival- another group effort with games, food and prizes.

All of these events are designed to be fun and culturally relevant to the Chinese experience.

I hope you will participate in some or all of these activities by volunteering through your class coordinator or by sending an email to either myself or Joey.

We love NEW ideas and new energy. Additional fundraising ideas and helping hands are always needed and welcome. Please email me or Joey Handley (zwenayi@verizon.net) with your thoughts.
